INSTALL GUIDE

This guide covers installation of the XOTIC PERFORMANCE™ FP102 flexplate bolt kit for the 2011–2023 6.7L Ford Power Stroke. Prefer a printable copy? Download the PDF manual.

Stages, not one pass — and washers chamfer-up. The 6.7L flexplate bolts are torqued evenly in stages to 95 ft-lbs using a crisscross pattern, rather than taken to final value one bolt at a time. And the supplied washers have a chamfered inner diameter that must face up, toward the underside of the bolt head, so it clears the radius where the shank meets the head.

Why flexplate bolts deserve attention

Flexplate bolts hold a thin steel plate — carrying the ring gear and the torque converter — to the end of the crankshaft, through a load case that never lets up. Every combustion event tries to accelerate the crank; the converter's fluid coupling resists. On a 6.7L those pulses are very large, especially on a tuned truck, and the flexplate flexes by design, so the joint is worked continuously rather than held statically.

Once clamp load drops, the plate starts to move against the crank flange, the holes elongate, and cracks propagate — usually ending with the transmission back out of the truck. If you're already at the bellhousing, these are the cheapest fasteners in the driveline to get right. XOTIC PERFORMANCE™ fasteners are manufactured from our premium XOTIC 7200 steel alloy and backed by a lifetime warranty.

Before you start: verify first

Confirm that part number FP102 is compatible with your application before installing any components. Inspect the flexplate for cracks around the bolt holes and at the ring gear — new bolts will not save a plate that has already started to fail. Report any product damage to us before proceeding.

How to install flexplate bolts on a 6.7L Power Stroke

  1. Fit the washers chamfer-up. Use the supplied washers and install them with the chamfered side facing the underside of the bolt head.
  2. Lubricate. Apply the provided assembly lubricant to the underside of the bolt head and to the washer contact surface.
  3. Fit the flexplate and hand-tighten. Position the flexplate onto the crankshaft flange and install all bolts, tightening them by hand only.
  4. Torque in stages, crisscross. Using a crisscross pattern, torque the bolts evenly in stages to a final value of 95 ft-lbs.

A common mistake to avoid: torquing around the circle instead of across it. Going bolt-to-adjacent-bolt pulls one side of the plate down before the other and can leave the flexplate sitting slightly cocked on the flange — which shows up later as runout, converter vibration, and a cracked plate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the flexplate bolt torque spec for a 6.7L Power Stroke?

95 ft-lbs final, reached evenly in stages using a crisscross pattern, with the washers chamfer-up and lubricant under the head and on the washer contact surface.

Which way do the washers go?

Chamfered side up, toward the underside of the bolt head, so the chamfer clears the radius under the head.

Manual transmission — do I need this kit?

No. A manual truck uses a flywheel; see the 6.7L flywheel bolt guide (FW103).

Do I need to lock the crank?

Yes. Use a proper holding tool rather than jamming the ring gear.
