Not for the 351 Cleveland. CP237 covers the 289, 302, 351W, and the FE and 385-series engines up to 460 — but the 351C uses a different crank snout arrangement and is specifically excluded. Check which 351 you have before ordering; the W and the C are not interchangeable here.
Why the balancer bolt matters
The harmonic balancer bolt is a single fastener doing two jobs at once. It clamps the balancer onto the crank snout so it can't walk, and it holds the whole front-of-engine stack — balancer, timing gear, spacers — in place against the torsional pulses the balancer exists to absorb. A balancer that works loose starts wearing its keyway, and a worn keyway on a crank snout is the kind of damage that ends with the crankshaft out of the car.

Before you start: verify first
Confirm that part number CP237 is compatible with your engine before installing any components — and confirm you are not working on a 351C. Inspect all package contents for damage and report anything you find.
How to install a harmonic balancer bolt on a Ford small block
- Clean everything. Clean all parts thoroughly, including the bolt threads and the end of the crankshaft, to remove all dirt and foreign oils.
- Lubricate in three places. Spread the assembly lubricant included in the package on the threads, underneath the bolt head, and on the face of the washer that contacts the balancer.
- Install hand-tight. Thread the bolt in by hand and confirm the balancer is fully seated on the snout with the key correctly engaged.
- Torque to 120 ft-lbs. Bring the bolt to final torque with the crank locked so the engine can't turn.

A common mistake to avoid: using the balancer bolt to draw the balancer onto the crank snout. It isn't an installation tool. Use a proper balancer installer, get the balancer fully seated, and only then fit the bolt — pulling it on with the bolt loads the threads in the crank snout in a way they were never designed for.

Why lubricate the washer face as well?
Because friction at every contact surface eats into the torque you apply. The threads, the underside of the head, and the washer-to-balancer face are all in the load path — lubricate all three and the wrench reading corresponds to the clamp load the spec intends.
Do I need to lock the crank?
Yes. At 120 ft-lbs the engine will turn over otherwise. Use a flywheel or flexplate holding tool.
